Northern highlands fieldwork
Between November 2021 and January 2022, researchers from the Vietnam National University Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (VNU-CRES) and the Vietnam National University of Agriculture took to the field for three intensive sampling campaigns in Lang Son, Dien Bien, and Lao Cai provinces. At each province, a series of interviews, focus group discussions, and mapping exercises were carried out. The team had engagements with stakeholders at provincial level: the Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dept. of Natural Resources and Environment, Dept. of Statistic Office, Division of Environmental Protection, Dept. of Labor, War invalids and Social Affairs. Dept. of Division of Forest protection; at district level: District People’s committee, Division of Agriculture and Rural Development, Division of Natural Resources and Environment, Division of Labour, War invalids and Social Affairs, Division of Forest protection; and at a communal and village level. These observations and interactions will contribute to improving our understanding of the economic and environmental consequences of Covid-19-related border closures on some of the most vulnerable households of three border provinces.
